I got to go to work last night! On top of that, I got a bunch of baby snuggles, got to see how nursing work is done for time-change, AND I got to watch a vaginal twin birth and the second kid was a footling breech!
Guys, let's talk about that again...
An OB/GYN delivered a footling breech baby!!! AND I got to see it!!!
I went into work, with the charge offering me two babies that had been with us for awhile. I asked one of the girls who was on admissions if she wanted to go to the birth, because I had heard the mama was going to a vaginal delivery. The girl said I could go because she doesn't like deliveries!!!
Oh what a wonderful day. The poor girls that were there all night had to work 13 hours. We had two 0100 columns in our charting system due to time change. I would be perfectly okay if we did away with the irritating daylight savings' time changes. Goodness, babies don't understand why we're holding off food from them for an extra 30 minutes for two "random" feedings. They can't be talked to and reasoned with as to why we are making them wait and why they are hungry. So many of the babies were hungry and crying because we had them wait. Poor kids.
Ah well, I think I may have passed out from exhaustion if I had to work the full 13 hours. Praise the L-rd for helping me in unexpected ways!
Oh, and on top of that, I learned that I wasn't supposed to get floated the other day. I'm not supposed to get floated until I've been working for at least 6 months. So maybe the practices of this particular charge nurse will get questioned so that an investigation into the hazing of newbies can be started... If not, I'll survive. Whatever, now I know I'm not supposed to go by myself. Cross-training is one thing, but to be sent by myself is another.
I have survived nursing school, my first year as a nurse, and several traumas. This is a blog chronicling my life, struggles, victories, blessings, and general happenings. My hope is that somehow, my stories can help others. Life is a bumpy ride, and worse for some. The great thing about life? It's 100% terminal and none of us get out of here alive.

Work
Yesterday was insane at work! I worked a 13.5 hour shift with no break. I was the float all day and all of the residents were totally effected by the full moon. Newscasters said that it was the biggest full moon of the year so hopefully the behaviors last night were the climax of the year and none of the other full moons will even come close to being so bad.
Folks, through many observations, I have come to the conclusion that the full moon effect is very much a real thing. If you can help it, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER work on full moons. You can work the day after, because everyone is typically very tired, but don't work the day of or 3-5 days before it. I'm tellin' ya, it's bad news. It's especially bad news for those few months where the moon is the closest to the earth and everyone wants to kill you because of it's magnified affects on the entire population of the world.
I'm praying that today is much better. Good news, I only work 5 hours today and for 2 of those hours the residents should be sleeping. Hopefully everyone goes to bed early and I can hang out with my girls! But I just remembered that one of my girls is on vacation for another week... This is quite unfortunate.
Daily Thanksgiving (yesterday's): The day is done and I did not scream, cry, or quit. I did not get socked in the face even though several residents did attempt to do so.
Today, I got to sleep in... after getting a call from work at 2:58 a.m. to try to get me to cover a 6:30 a.m. shift that same day. Let me tell you, waking me up from sleep is not the way to get on my good side so that I will come in and help you cover holes! I understand that people call off, but come on! I get very grouchy when woken up from sleep because of a call from work. Then I can't sleep because they woke me up so I wake up even more grouchy.
Daily Thanksgiving (today's): Still to come. I did get to kinda sleep in though!
